- What we have here is a white wine made from red grapes grown in the Oltrepo Pavese region of Northern Italy. Located within Lombardy, Oltrepo Pavese is as picturesque as can be, with rolling hills, mountains, and valleys throughout. It isn't uncommon for winemakers in this area to press Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) grapes and immediately remove the skins before fermentation, resulting in a white wine. Producers such as Faravelli go one further, bottling the wine before fermentation is complete, allowing the possibility of a bit of frizzante spritz. The result is a white with intense golden apple and green banana aromas leading up to a fresh and elegant palate. This sounds like a weird wine but when you taste it it's reassuringly elegant.
